Duration: 1 year (September – May), full time

Qualification: FETAC Level 5 Certificate in Healthcare Support

For whom: This programme is designed for those who wish to pursue a career in the caring profession, in a variety of healthcare settings. It is designed to equip the learner with the skills and understanding to work as a member of a professional healthcare team.

Course Content: Modules may include: Care Support; Care Skills; Communications; Work Experience; Safety and Health at Work; Child Development; Child Health and Well-Being; Early Childhood Education and Play; Disability Awareness.

Assessment: A variety of modes of assessments may be used including assignments, collection of work, examinations, learning records, projects and skills demonstrations.

Progression: Holders of a FETAC/QQI award at Level 5 may apply for degree courses in Institutes of Technology and Universities; apply to do a Level 6 programme in Supervision in Childcare, Health Service Supervisory Management Skills.

Work as: Healthcare Assistant in a variety of settings such as nursing homes, hospitals and home help support.

Work in: Public and Voluntary Sector in the areas of residential care, older people, juvenile, justice and family support services, in hospitals, in the community or in residential care.
