Newport College is fully engaged with the new Programme
Core Examination subjects
These subjects are studied by all students:

At Newport College we allow each student an opportunity to get a taste of our full range of subjects during first year. At the end of first year the students decide on the subjects they wish to take at Certificate examination level. The class teachers, and Careers Guidance Counsellor advise students on making the best choice. Parents are also consulted at this stage.
Students study three of these subjects for the Junior Cert
- Business Studies
- Home Economics
- Technical Graphics
- Materials Technology (Wood)
- Materials Technology (Metal)
Non Examination Subjects
These subjects are studied but are not part of the Junior Cert examinations
- Social Personal and Health Education
- Physical Education
- Information Technology
The Junior Certificate School Programme (JCSP) is undertaken by all Junior Certificate students in addition to the traditional Junior Certificate course. The JCSP attempts to help young people experience success and develop a positive self-image by providing a curriculum and assessment framework suitable to their needs. On completion of the programme students receive a profile which is an official record of their achievements from the Department of Education and Skills.
