Newport College has recently installed a new National Geographic Weather Watch Station through the ESB Weather Watch Programme, and the Green Team’s work secured this excellent addition for the school. Our live data will be appearing on the Weather Watch website in the coming days (https://esbnetworksweatherwatch.ie/weather-station-data/).
ESB Weather Watch have also supported us with resources to help us get started and make full use of the system. Our 6th year Geography class helped assemble the station and were photographed beside it once installed. The tablet connected to the system is set up in the Geography room and displays real-time information including temperature, rainfall, humidity, wind speed, wind direction and air pressure, all recorded directly on our school grounds.
This information can support a wide range of subjects, including Geography, Science, Maths, CSPE, Agricultural Science and the new Climate Action & Sustainable Development course. It provides accurate primary data for CBAs, ALTs, fieldwork, projects and climate studies across the school. This is an exciting step forward for climate learning and hands-on investigation at Newport College, and we look forward to seeing how students use it in their work.
